A big part of PR (and my job at BHL Productions) is pitching. I pitch to many, many media outlets about stories and events for my clients. Currently, many of my clients are in the beauty/fashion industry which makes pitching pretty fun!
When you pitch to a journalist about your client, you want them to pay attention to you for more than three seconds. Although I am still mastering that art of The Pitch (and probably will always be!) I have seen what works and what totally does not. Here are my tips on how to pitch and snag them hits!
1. Be Smart. Let's say you're at a bar and a total cutie walks in. You want to strut up to them like Beyonce, but you should probably do a little digging around and see what the cutie is interested in. After digging around a bit, you can talk to them with the grace of Kate Middleton and win their heart. Pitching is a little bit like that, minus the bar environment. If you want an outlet to respond to your pitch in a positive way, do a little research and figure out exactly what they write about, upcoming stories, an editorial calendar or some personal connection you may have. Show a little tenderness.
2. Be Aware. Since most of my clients are in the fashion/beauty industry, I am constantly paying attention to what is buzzing about in these fun fields. When Kim Kardashian aimed to "break the Internet" with her derriere, I quickly created a "Bottoms Up!" pitch about the big booty trend and landed four feature pieces for my client.
3. Be Creative. You never know what a journalist could be working on, so why not throw a crazy story idea out there? A little creativity can take you a long way.
4. Hustle, Hustle, Hustle. A great PR person makes their client be heard by hustling so hard that even Jay-Z will take notice. Sending one e-mail will not seal the deal, therefore, you've gotta follow-up and even hop on the phone.

I am famous in the office for my homemade lunches. Lunchtime is the time everyone looks forward to at work. It’s the time to take a well-needed mental break, to refresh your senses and to re-energize your brain so you can take on the day like the super hero that you are.
How many of you lunch mates, like me, adore your homemade lunch at work (even if you are wolfing it down over your computer)? Now, how many of you (unlike me) are spending at least $10 a day on lunch? Lunchtime should not break the bank! I’m saving both my wallet and waistline (well… the waistline not so much) by bringing my lunch in everyday to BHL Productions so I can spend my dough on the things that matter in life – shoes, magazines and any accessory with Beyoncé or a pug on it.
Bringing your lunch to work daily may sound intimidating and frustrating at first, but it’s super easy and fun! First, rock a super cute lunchbox so that anything inside automatically seems awesome. My lunch bag is cheesy, yet seasonal and cute. It also states my life theme: I <3 Lunch. Goal accomplished. Staples offers trendy lunch bags and for a cheap price!
Next, bring in food that will make your co-workers just jealous enough that they won’t hate you. Everyday, my boss salivates at my homemade lunches. Since fall has arrived, I am obsessed with making soup. Soups are fast, easy and healthy. I throw in as many veggies as I can in my soup and even better than that – they last you all week. Today, accompanied by my soup, I brought in an avocado sandwich on whole wheat bread, that totally produced an instant “I’m-healthy-and-trendy” vibe!
Lastly, share! The other week, I brought spicy hummus with carrots and shared with our new intern. It was a great way to start a conversation with a fresh-faced co-worker and spread the hummus addiction! Stay hungry as I unpack my lunch bag with yummy tips and tricks. No mate should go hungry or broke during my lunch break!
Of all the Holiday Pop Up Shops in NYC, I love Creeds Collective the most of all. This shop of love is nestled in SoHo on 54 Crosby Street and your personal little gingerbread house of fabulous brands this season.
Creeds Collective is the seed of Creeds of Love , Concept Collective and Global Citizen. The shop is housing products that are local, give back to charity and almost all of the businesses are owned and operated by women. It's truly a place you can feel good about in every way.
I adore the colorful Angela & Roi handbags that are made of vegan leather and of course, give back. Each vibrant bag donates to a different cause. I'm saving up for a little red number. Creeds Collective is also rocking nOir jewlery that JLO, Bey and Gaga strut around in too. I love the loud "BAM!" rings and am dreaming about imprinting it on someone's forehead... #noshame.
If you're not a shopping type of gal (I've heard they exist, somewhere in a land far, far way) tiptoe to the shop's third floor for a mani and pedi treat.

The coolest part of my job at BHL Productions is that I get to brainstorm, research, pitch and create television segments for huge media outlets such as E! News and Good Morning America. I began my love affair with television in college as an air personality for Plattsburgh State Television. My perky PR ways served me well as I interviewed contestants for the game show, "The Roommate Game." I always wanted to mix my passion for television with my PR skills, but could never find the right opportunity. Alas, BHL Productions found me!
Last week, we did a Halloween segment for PIX 11 that showcased 2014's hottest costumes for kids. I had a blast putting together the segment and found (to my surprise) that I enjoyed working with children, I even hugged one of them!
We also did an inspired "celebrity wedding look for less" segment for E! News. My favorite part of the piece was that all our wedding looks were under $1,000, making it affordable for most women to rock down the aisle.
I love combining my PR expertise with the exciting world of television. Each set and crew is like a family, and I consider myself the distant (but not too distant) PR cousin.
